This guide will show you how to configure the Vigor2865L, Vigor2866L and Vigor2927L series routers to setup WAN 1 as the primary internet connection and LTE as the backup internet connection of WAN 1.

In the following example, we will demonstrate on Vigor2865L.

Step 1: Set up WAN 1 (VDSL2) as primary WAN

1.1 How to enable WAN 1 (VDSL2)

  • Go to (WAN >> General Setup) configuration menu.

  • Select Enable to activate WAN 1

1.2 Click on WAN1 to enter WAN 1 configuration menu.

  • Select Yes for enable.
  • Select mode for Active Mode (Available modes: Always on or Backup)
  • Set Active mode to Always On

1.3 Setup Ping Detection Mode

  • Select Ping Detect as the link Condition Detection Mode
  • Type 8.8.8.8 for the Primary Ping IP
  • Type 8.8.4.4 for the secondary Ping IP
  • Type 2 (seconds) for the Ping Interval

The WAN connection detection settings should be configured with an external IP address which will respond to a Ping, such as the Google public DNS server, 8.8.8.8 / 8.8.4.4.

The ping interval should be set to a high number to ensure the packet is not expired due to the number of hops. The default ping interval is 255.

This link condition detection setting helps to smooth the failover to LTE when WAN1 (VDSL2) is down.
